Ashwin Reveals Why Australia's George Bailey Is An OG Of CSK
George Bailey played only four matches in two seasons for the franchise, and yet all players consider him OG
Ever since Ravichandran Ashwin returned home to the Chennai Super Kings, he has been bringing out the gems from the vault of the history of the Indian Premier League. His latest discovery is the Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) dressing room song.
Talking about the origin of the song, videos of which resurfaced on social media accounts after Ashwin’s YouTube show was published, the former India tweaker called former Australia and Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain and current Australian chief selector George Bailey, a CSK OG (Original Gangster) for creating the masterpiece.
“In fact, in the team song, I forgot the first few lines this time [chuckles]. I tried singing it slowly and caught up with the lyrics gradually again. It is a historical fact that not a lot of people know, but the team song was written by George Bailey. He composed the song, and we call him an OG of CSK,” Ashwin said in an interaction with Prasanna Lara, a social media cricket analyst.
Bailey played two seasons for CSK in 2009 and 2010. But he got to play in only four matches in both the seasons combined. In total, he played 40 IPL matches, taking Punjab Kings to the final in 2014.
Ashwin, who was signed for INR 9.75 Cr in the IPL 2025 Mega Auction, said that in CSK, nothing changes even after so many years. The off-spinner, before being part of the playing 11s in both the matches of this season, last played for CSK in 2015.
“I always say that ‘change is the only constant’. In several places and teams, I have seen a lot of changes over the years. But when it comes to CSK, nothing has changed. Starting with the backroom staff, the same composure, the team song, etc,” he said.
