Hours after the ‘Ball Tampering’ allegations against his team, Dindigul Dragons’ captain Ravichandran Ashwin smashed a 46-ball 67 against Chepauk Super Gillies, on June 16 (Monday). Chasing 181, Ashwin lost his opening partner, Shivam Singh, quite cheaply for a 14-ball 13, leaving a lot of work for the 38-year-old.
Ashwin did not disappoint, racing away to a 16-ball 32 at the end of the powerplay, where he hit both spin and pace in equal measures. It was in the third over of the powerplay when the CSK all-rounder teed off, with a four, four and six against Abhishek Tanwar, who is leading the wicket-taking chart in Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL).
While the right-handed batter slowed down, he stood as a rock for the Dragons, getting to his half-century off just 30 balls. Earlier in the day, the Dragons’ skipper was at his economical best, conceding just 29 runs off his four overs, picking up the prized scalp of CSG’s opener RS Mokit Hariharan.
Meanwhile, both the Dragons and their leader Ashwin were cleared of ‘ball-tampering’ charges.
