Asia Cup 2025: Jasprit Bumrah Picks Up His First T20I Wicket In 438 Days
The India pacer plays his first T20I since the T20 World Cup 2024
Jasprit Bumrah picked up India's first wicket in the Asia Cup 2025 campaign, bowling Alishan Sharafu with a pinpoint yorker to dismiss the UAE opener for 22 off 17. The batter was looking in excellent form, hitting three fours and a six during his stay.
However, he could not keep a superb delivery from Bumrah out, giving the India pacer his first T20 International (T20I) wicket in 438 days. Before this, he last played for India in T20Is in the T20 World Cup final 2024 in Bridgetown, Barbados, where he finished with figures of 2/18 to hand India the title.
His wickets on that historic day were South Africa batters Reeza Hendricks and Marco Jansen. India played 21 matches since the World Cup final, but Bumrah did not feature in a single game due to injuries and workload management.
With the wicket of Sharafu, Bumrah now has 90 wickets in the format for India. Only Hardik Pandya (94), Yuzvendra Chahal (96) and Arshdeep Singh (99) have more wickets. Notably, India have gone into this match without Arshdeep Singh, as they wanted to play an extra spinner.
Earlier, India captain Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and opted to bowl.
