Hero from India’s Asia Cup 2025-winning campaign, Tilak Varma, was not able to sustain that form in his first encounter of the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
Captaining his team, Tilak endured tough times both as captain as well as a player. While his team was unable to stop the opposition, Delhi from scoring a mammoth 529/4 in the first innings.
While batting, he faced only two balls, getting trapped by his counterpart, Ayush Badoni. However, his team is not out of the contest yet. At Tea on Day 3, they were 306/4, trailing by 223 runs.
Tanmay Agarwal, having hit his hundred, was batting on 117 and was partnered by Varun Gaud, and the two added 44 for the fifth wicket.
Earlier in the Asia Cup 2025 final, Tilak smashed an unbeaten 69 off 53 balls to take his team to the trophy against Pakistan. Overall, the southpaw scored 213 runs at an average of 71 and was the fourth-highest run-getter in the tournament.
Just after the Asia Cup, he hit 94 against Australia A in a List-A game as well. Thus, to get out on a duck in his first Ranji game against a part-timer was a bit surprising for Tilak and those who follow him.
