Heinrich Klaasen, one of the best batters in the South African set-up, could not play the first game of their team in the ICC Champions Trophy against Afghanistan. There was no official reason given by the Proteas team management at toss in that game as to why Klaasen was not playing.
However, South Africa captain Temba Bavuma gave an update on Klaasen and his availability ahead of their match against Australia on February 25 (Monday).
“They still have to assess his fitness. There's obviously still practice today so he'll do his practice today. Mainly he is batting, and I guess he and the medical, they'll make a decision accordingly,” Bavuma said in the pre-match press conference on February 24 (Monday).
Both teams are coming on the back of big wins. While Australia beat England while chasing 352, South Africa beat Afghanistan by 107 runs. Thus, a win in this match will give them a great shot at making it to the semi-final.
