Australia 2024 U-19 World Cup Hero Of Indian Origin Smashes Triple Century
With his 314 off 141 balls, which included 35 sixes, Harjas entered a rare list
Harjas Singh, Indian origin batter from Australia, made history, smashing a triple century in limited-over grade cricket for Western Suburbs, playing against the Sydney Cricket Club at Pattern Park on October 4 (Saturday).
He not only became the first-ever cricketer to score the triple ton in limited overs of grade level cricket, but also only the third batter ever in premier grade-level history, including red-ball cricket or multi-day grade cricket as it is called.
With his 314 off 141 balls, which included 35 sixes, Harjas entered a rare list, joining Phil Jaques (321) and Victor Trumper (335) as only three players with triple centuries to their name in New South Wales Premier first grade cricket.
Harjas, who had top-scored in the U-19 World Cup 2024 match between India and Australia in South Africa, was seen roaring after reaching his triple century.
The match was available for a YouTube live stream, but ironically, the India A vs Australia A match, featuring some of Harjas’ teammates from the U-19 World Cup 2024, was not available for telecast.
Harjas, while commenting on his record-breaking feat, said to Fox Cricket, "Definitely, that's the cleanest ball-striking I've ever done, for sure. It's something I'm quite proud of because I've worked in the off-season quite a bit on my power-hitting, and for it to come off today was quite special."
"I've missed out the last season or two, worrying about stuff outside my own game. But I feel like I've brought myself to just worrying about what's going on with my own game,” he added.
It is worth noting that, unlike his mates from the Under-19 days such as Sam Konstas, Hugh Weibgen, Mahli Beardmann and Oliver Peake, have already made it to their state teams with Konstas going on to play for the national team. Beardman and Peake have also made it to the A team.
