Injury has forced Australia’s hand, as they have added former RCB pacer Sean Abbott to the squad as an injury replacement for Brendan Doggett, on June 15 (Sunday). Australia have already been hampered by Steve Smith’s injury, with the batter set to miss at least the first Test of the West Indies series.
Doggett, who was added to the World Test Championship (WTC) final squad, suffered a minor injury, but big enough to rule him out of the series. Doggett emerged as a big asset after the 2024/25 Sheffield Shield final, where he picked up 11/140 for South Australia.
Abbott has been a regular traveller over the last year with the Australian setup, after visiting both India and Sri Lanka without getting an opportunity. However, there’s no guarantee that Abbott might feature in the West Indies Tests either, with the likes of Scott Boland and left-arm spinner Matt Kuhnemann waiting in the wings.
The first of the three Tests will begin on June 25 in Barbados.
