India’s brief reign as the number one ranked side across all three formats is over as Australia have dethroned them in the latest update of the ICC Rankings. Australia had clinched the number one Test ranking in the aftermath of the World Test Championship (WTC) win but were dethroned later by India, who became the number one side in all three formats.
However, following Australia’s series win over Pakistan and India’s 1-1 draw against South Africa, the Kangaroos have returned to top spot.
As it stands, Australia have 118 rating points compared to India’s 117. Ben Stokes’ England are not far away from the top two sides, with them having 115 rating points themselves.
The next three months will see an intriguing battle for the top spot, with all of India, Australia and England in action, extensively. While India are scheduled to play five Tests against England, Australia will play two Tests against West Indies at home before playing two more Tests away in New Zealand.
The Aussies will likely extend their lead up top if they win the ongoing third Test in Sydney against Pakistan.
