Australia should move on from Justin Langer if it's the best thing to do: Adam Gilchrist

Australia lost back-to-back T20I series against West Indies and Bangladesh recently

Justin Lander's management style has not gone down well with many Australian cricketers. Most recently, Langer was involved in a heated argument with a Cricket Australia (CA) staffer over a video posted on social media following Bangladesh's victory in the third T20I.

Keeping all this in mind, former Australia wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist reckons that if the national team are to change the coach, they should do it sooner rather than later.  "Justin is very aware of these perceived issues with his management style, and he's going to keep trying to work with that, and I'm sure the players will try to work alongside that as well," Gilchrist told SEN Radio on Monday (August 16), as reported by Sydney Morning Herald.

"But the bigger issue, and it will derail the summer if it doesn't get sorted out, is the fact these journalists have a direct line of contact with people within the inner sanctum there, and the people in that inner sanctum are happy to let it get out," he added.

A veteran of 96 Tests, Gilchrist further adds that Langer has to be replaced if that is in the best interest of all involved. "So, Cricket Australia needs to try to address this very quickly. If everyone believes the best thing to do is move on from Justin Langer as a coach, do it sooner rather than later because it is just going to create a side issue, which is going to continue to be a circus," Gilchrist said.

Australia have no matches scheduled ahead of the T20 World Cup, with the ODI series between Afghanistan and Australia in India postponed. However, the two countries are set to meet in a one-off Test in Perth on November 27.
