Fresh injury has Australian camp worried as their skipper Alyssa Healy is ruled out of the team’s next Women’s World Cup 2025 fixture against England, on October 21 (Tuesday) with a calf strain. Healy has been in the best of form of late, smashing 142 and 113* in back-to-back clashes, helping the side qualify for the semi-final.
Healy’s 142 came in a record run chase for Australia in Women’s ODIs as they downed 331, with three wickets and an over to spare. However, she was at her dominant best in the next game when she smashed Bangladeshi bowlers left, right and centre, smashing an unbeaten 113 as Australia made light work of their run chase.
Tahlia McGrath, who is the vice-captain, is expected to lead the side in Healy’s absence. Meanwhile, their ever-dependable star Beth Mooney will take over the gloves as exciting opener Georgia Voll is expected to replace her at the top of the order.
Australia have already qualified to the semi-final but still have two group fixtures remaining – against England and later against South Africa. It will very well determine who they face in the knockout stage of the competition.
