Former England batter Kevin Pietersen has always been one of the most outspoken cricketers, and he’s the kind who is unafraid of giving bold suggestions and hot takes.
During his playing days, KP batted with innovation and made the ‘switch hit’ a norm, and, post retirement, he’s always been a strong advocate for introduction of new rules that make the game more interesting.
Today, the 45-year-old took to X (formerly Twitter) to call for the introduction of a radical new rule, which will see batters being awarded 12 runs instead of 6, for sixes that are over 100 meters in distance.
“I’ve said it before and I will say it again, if a batter hits a six that is over 100m, 12 runs should be added to the score,” Pietersen wrote on X.
“More batters will try and with more batters trying, more entertainment.”
One of the most flamboyant batters in history, KP was a monster six-hitter during his playing days. Among Englishmen, only Ben Stokes (136) has hit more sixes in Tests than Pietersen’s 81. In 2010, Pietersen delivered England their first major trophy as he was Player of the Tournament in the 2010 T20 World Cup where he hit 248 runs at an average of 62.00 and strike rate of 138.
