Babar Azam climbs to No. 2 in ICC T20I rankings

The Pakistan captain is now only behind Dawid Malan, who leads the ICC T20I rankings for batsmen with 892 ranking points.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam moves to second position in the latest ICC T20I rankings. After an impressive show against South Africa in the T20I series, which included a century, Babar has gained 47 points and now has 844 points and is only behind Dawid Malan, who has 892 ranking points.

The three-match series against Zimbabwe will give Babar an opportunity to close the gap on Malan. Babar recently dethroned Virat Kohli to become the No. 1 ODI player.  In T20Is, Kohli remains three spots below the Pakistan captain in fifth.

Babar's teammates Fakhar Zaman and Mohammad Rizwan too have made significant strides in the T20I rankings to reach the 33rd and 15th position respectively.  On the bowling front, Pacer Shaheen Afridi has reached career-best 11th spot, while Faheem Ashraf (16th), Mohammad Nawaz (24th) and Haris Rauf (38th) too have climbed in the bowlers' list.

Pakistan begin their three-match T20I series from today (April 21), following their impressive 3-1 series win over South Africa not too long ago.
