Babar, Rizwan Should Do Ads Instead Of Playing Cricket: Former Pakistan Batter

Pakistan suffered a 2-1 ODI series defeat at the hands of the West Indies recently

Pakistan have been on a downward curve for some time now, and their latest 2-1 One-Day International (ODI) series defeat against the West Indies has made it even worse. In fact, they were bundled out for just 92 in the series decider, while chasing 295.

Questions have been raised on various fronts, more so of Pakistan's senior players like Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan. While Rizwan scored 53, 16 and 0 in the three matches, Babar, who has not scored an ODI ton for two years, managed 47, 0 and 9 in the three innings.

Former Pakistan batter Basit Ali has slammed the duo's performances and has asked them to give up cricket and do ads instead.

“They're living up to the performances they did during the beginning of their careers. Ab inse bas advertisements kara lo [Let them just do ads now],” Basit said on The Game Plan, according to Hindustan Times.

“They don't listen to the coaches. Whatever the batting coaches say, they just keep pretending to listen to them. They need someone who can give them a wake-up call, like Inzamam, Yousuf or a Younis Khan. And they know there's no one who would do that, because they didn't let anyone do it before.”

Babar's cousin and former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Kamran Akmal has urged him not to act bigger than the game when he enters the field.

“I can guarantee that I haven't seen ego in him. He respects his family and meets everyone respectfully. But what I want from him is, when he enters the field, he doesn't act bigger than the game. Prioritise Pakistan. The investments he made in some players during his tenure as Pakistan captain didn't favour the country, too,” Akmal said.

Pakistan will next be in action in a T20I tri-series also featuring Afghanistan and hosts UAE in Sharjah, starting August 29.
