Back From Injury, Rishabh Pant Set To Make Comeback In THIS Major Competition
Pant has been out of action since the first week of August
In what comes as encouraging news for team India, Test vice-captain Rishabh Pant is all set to make his competitive return later this month. Pant fractured his foot in the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford, and he’s been out of action since then, with him also missing the ongoing two-Test series against West Indies at home.
However, according to a Times of India report, the wicketkeeper batter is only a week or so away from regaining full fitness, and is eyeing a comeback in the Ranji Trophy later this month.
“As of now, there is a likelihood he could be cleared by Oct 10. An assessment is due this week. It has been a long recovery for him. The BCCI medical team doesn’t want to take any chances with him,” a BCCI source told TOI.
Delhi’s first Ranji Trophy match is on October 15, but while such a quick return might be unlikely, DDCA sources are confident that the left-hander will feature in Delhi’s second match of the season against Himachal Pradesh, which starts on October 25.
“Pant has said he should be available for the Ranji Trophy matches in Delhi from Oct 25. He has conveyed that it will be subject to fitness and clearance obtained from the BCCI medical team,” a top DDCA official told TOI.
It’s almost certain that Pant will return to the Indian Test side for the two-Test series against South Africa next month, which starts from November 14. Dhruv Jurel is keeping wickets in Tests in Pant’s absence, and the right-hander peeled off a maiden Test ton in the first Test against West Indies in Ahmedabad.
Given Jurel’s impressive run with the bat in hand, Pant’s return could give some selection headaches to the management. There is a good chance that both Pant and Jurel might be in the side, with the latter taking up keeping duties.
