Soumya Sarkar, a Bangladesh veteran in white ball formats, is set to return to the side once again as he was named as the replacement for regular T20I skipper Litton Das, for the three-match series against Afghanistan.
Das, who missed out on the last two games of the team’s Asia Cup 2025 campaign due to injury, has been diagnosed with a grade 1 strain on the left abdominal muscle.
This has effectively ruled Das out for at least a few weeks and forced the team to make the solitary change. Jaker Ali, who led in Das’ absence in the Asia Cup, will continue to lead in the three-match series as well.
"He (Das) had missed the last two matches of the Asia Cup with a side strain. An MRI scan revealed a grade 1 strain on the left abdominal muscle. He is undergoing recovery and will not be available for the T20 series. The medical team will continue to manage his rehab and monitor his progress," team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
The three-match series will kick off on October 2. Soumya brings about much-needed experience of playing 87 T20Is played between 2015 and 2024 to this Bangladeshi outfit.
