NEWSFor the first Test against Pakistan, starting November 26 in Chattogram, Bangladesh have named the uncapped duo of Mahmudul Hasan and Rejaur Rahman in the squad. However, Taskin Ahmed, who sustained an injury in the third T20I was not considered for the series.
On the other hand, Tamim Iqbal, who was pushing for a return did not make the cut due to a thumb injury. Cricbuzz also reported that star all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan, who last played in the T20 World Cup would only be allowed to play after a medical green-signal.
"It is still early days for him but Mahmudul has showed good temperament for the longer version," Chairman of the National Selection Panel, Minhajul Abedin said.
The 21-year-old Mahmudul’s opportunity in the senior squad comes on the back of his stellar display on the first-class scene, with two centuries. On the other hand, thanks to a handful of injuries, the selectors have named Rahman, who has picked up 33 wickets in ten games in the domestic fixtures.
"He is also an in-form batsman. With injury concerns to Taskin (Ahmed) and Shoriful (Islam), we needed to keep our pace bowling options open and Raja got the nod. We have been monitoring his performances in first class competitions. He is strong and energetic and has a knack for taking wickets."
"There is a fair bit of experience if you consider that Mominul (Haque), Mushfiqur (Rahim), Shakib, Taijul (Islam) and Miraz (Mehidy Hasan) are all part of the squad. We will obviously have to wait to see if Shakib makes it for the first Test but these players have been the most consistent performers for us in Tests and their presence can make a difference."
