Bangladesh Rally To Register Historic T20I Series Win Over Pakistan

Chasing 134, Pakistan succumbed to an eight-run defeat after being reduced to 15/5

It has been a few days to forget for Pakistan as they find themselves 0-2 down in the three-match T20 International (T20I) series against Bangladesh. With an eight-run win in the second T20I in Mirpur on July 22 (Tuesday), Bangladesh have registered their first-ever bilateral series win over Pakistan, in a series where two or more matches were played.

Bangladesh won the first game of the series by seven wickets on July 20 (Sunday) after chasing down a mere 111. In the recently concluded match, Pakistan were reduced to 15/5 in the first five overs of their chase in pursuit of 134, which is the lowest they have scored when at the loss of five wickets.

Pakistan managed to get to just 17/5 in the first six overs, which is among the worst totals for them at that stage in T20Is.

Pakistan got close thanks to Faheem Ashraf's maiden T20I fifty. He put on 41 for the eighth wicket with Abbas Afridi and then another 33 with debutant Ahmed Daniyal. However, losing so many wickets upfront proved to be fatal for the Salma Agha-led side, and they eventually succumbed to a close defeat.

For the record, Bangladesh have won a series against Pakistan. But it was a one-off match in 2015, which the hosts won by seven wickets in Mirpur.

Pakistan will hope to salvage some pride and end the series on a high when they take on Bangladesh in the third T20I on July 24 (Thursday) in  Mirpur.
