Bangladesh replace injured Saifuddin with Rubel Hossain

Rubel will be available for selection against England on Wednesday

Bangladesh's medium-pace-bowling allrounder Mohammad Saifuddin has been ruled out of the remainder of the 2021 T20 World Cup because of a back injury.

Rubel Hossain, who was one of the standbys, has been added to the main squad and will be available for selection against England on Wednesday (October 27).

Saifuddin has featured in all four games so far for Bangladesh. The 24-year-old picked up at least one wicket in each encounter and also scored 19* off six deliveries against PNG.

Meanwhile, Rubel has been around for quite some time now and has played 28 T20Is for Bangladesh. The right-arm paceman has claimed 28 wickets at a strike rate of 20.6 and an economy of 9.45.

Bangladesh started the tournament with a defeat against Scotland but managed to thump Oman and PNG to qualify for the Super 12 stage. However, they lost to Sri Lanka by five wickets on October 24 despite scoring 171 at Sharjah.

The replacement of a player requires the approval of the event technical committee before the replacement player can be officially added to the squad.

The committee consists of Chris Tetley (Head of Events, Chair), Clive Hitchcock (ICC Senior Cricket Operations Manager), Rahul Dravid and Dhiraj Malhotra (BCCI Representatives), Simon Doull and Ian Bishop (Independent Members).
