Bangladesh rest Mahmudullah for Ireland ODIs

The all-rounder has been rested from the opening two ODIs of the series

Bangladesh have rested their star all-rounder Mahmudullah for the first two ODIs of the three-match ODI series against Ireland. The three-match series will kick-off on March 18, with the last two ODIs on March 20 and 23, with the all-rounder set to return to the setup for the final clash.

Alongside that, the two teams will also play a three-match T20I series followed with a one-off Test, that will begin in Dhaka from April 4. In a conversation with publication Cricbuzz, BCB’s chief selector, Minhajul Abedin insisted that Bangladesh are looking forward to trying out different combinations.

"We have rested Mahmudullah in the series and we are looking forward trying out other options that we have at the moment. We have to see our different combinations as we are preparing our team for the next World Cup but his omission certainly does not imply that everything is over for him," BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin told Cricbuzz on Sunday.

Alongside that, uncapped batter, Zakir Hasan, who starred in the two-match Test series against India too has been included. Zakir has previously played for Bangladesh in the shortest format too, before making his Test debut last year.

Squad: Tamim Iqbal (Captain), Litton Kumer Das, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Afif Hossain, Yasir Ali Chowdhury, Towhid Hridoy, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Nasum Ahmed, Taskin Ahmed, Ebadot Hossain Chowdhury, Mustafizur Rahman, Hasan Mahmud, Shoriful Islam, Zakir Hasan
