Bangladesh captain Litton Das has expressed confidence that his side is “almost ready” for the upcoming ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, citing improvements in team balance, fielding and overall performances. Speaking after a 2-1 T20I series win over Ireland, he said, “I think we tried almost everything in every aspect of the team. This bunch of players are almost ready for the next World Cup,” as quoted by ESPNCricinfo.
Das pointed out that Bangladesh has not shied away from experimentation, testing combinations and roles to fine-tune their squad. “Mohammad Saifuddin bowled the last over. I wanted to see what a player would do after not playing two matches,” Das remarked.
He also acknowledged a long-standing weakness: fielding. But during the recent series, he felt there were positive signs.
“We are not a good fielding unit, but we took some brilliant catches in this series. At least in the fielding department, we have shown improvement,” Bangladesh skipper added.
This optimism comes after a largely strong 2025 for Bangladesh in the shortest format. During their mid-year tour of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh clinched their first-ever T20I series win on Lankan soil, defeating the hosts 2-1. In the deciding match, a composed chase sealed by contributions from their bowlers and middle-order batters highlighted the balance the team has been striving for.
Moreover, Bangladesh played more T20Is this calendar year than any other side, giving them precious match-practice and an opportunity to test depth and adaptability across different conditions. Still, it hasn’t always been smooth. Even in the series against Ireland, Bangladesh lost the opening match. But their response, where they bounced back with two wins, gave credence to Das’s claim that the squad is adapting, learning from mistakes, and growing in resilience.
With the T20 World Cup, jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka, coming up, Bangladesh appear to be entering the tournament with a renewed sense of purpose, a flexible squad, and crucial momentum in T20Is.
