Faruque Ahmed Removed As BCB President After No-Confidence Motion By Directors

The ministry revealed the same in a statement after eight BCB directors signed a no-confidence motion against Faruque

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Faruque Ahmed has been removed from his position after the country's sports ministry decided that he will no longer remain their representative on the BCB's board of directors. The ministry revealed the same in a statement after eight BCB directors signed a no-confidence motion against Faruque.

"In light of the no-confidence letter sent by eight BCB directors against Faruque Ahmed, and the report presented by the fact-finding committee about the BPL, his nomination as the representative of the National Sports Council (sports ministry) has been cancelled," the statement from Bangladesh's sports ministry said, reported ESPNCricinfo.

Eight Directors, Nazmul Abedeen Fahim, Mahbubul Anam, Kazi Inam Ahmed, Fahim Sinha, Salahuddin Chowdhury, Iftikhar Rahman, Saifur Alam, Swapan Chowdhury and Manjur Alam signed the order against Faruque Ahmed, whereas former Bangladesh captain Akram Khan and Faruque himself decided not to sign the motion.

The reason behind the removal was Faruque’s constitutional violations. One of the clauses directors pointed out was clause 14-B of the BCB's constitution, which requires approval of the board of directors when hiring or sacking coaches. However, Faruque dismissed Chandika Hathurusingha as the coach in October without informing the board of directors.

"Capable professionals have been overlooked while loyalty and personal allegiance have been rewarded. He is neither working for the development of Bangladesh cricket nor respecting the spirit of democratic governance,” the letter said.

Faruque later stated that he was considering legal action against the decision. "I will speak to my lawyer about the letter. I might take legal action. There is no mention of a no-confidence motion in the BCB constitution, so I don't think it matters. I have seen the letter. They have accused me of wrongdoings that they have done themselves. I laughed out loud seeing the letter," Faruque Ahmed told the Bengali daily Kaler Kantho.
