Bangladesh’s Mushfiqur Rahim on November 20 (Thursday), created history as he not only became the first Bangladeshi to play 100 Tests, but also the first Bangladeshi, third Asian and 11th player in the world to hit a century in his 100th Test.
The feat achieved by him is so rare that it has not been achieved by even the greats of the game like Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid. In fact, no Indian or Sri Lankan has achieved this milestone.
The only two other Asians to have done this are Pakistan’s Javed Miandad in 1989 and Inzamam-ul-Haq in 2005.
Other cricketers to have achieved this unique feat include West Indies’ Gordon Greenidge, England’s Alec Stewart, Colin Cowdrey and Joe Root, the South African duo of Graeme Smith and Hashim Amla and the Australian duo of Ricky Ponting and David Warner.
Warner was the last to reach the landmark in 2022 against South Africa before the latest achievement by the Bangladeshi wicketkeeper-batter.
Playing against Ireland in Dhaka in the second Test of the two-match series, Rahim reached the milestone in the morning session of Day 2.
