NEWSThree members of the Bangladesh women's team contingent headed for ODI World Cup in New Zealand tested positive on Thursday, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed. The rest of the squad flew to Auckland for the tournament where they will quarantine for ten days on arrival.
The members who tested positive will undergo quarantine in Dhaka as the BCB hoped they will recover soon to make the trip for the World Cup beginning on March 4.
"The national women's team is heading to New Zealand to take part in the World Cup," BCB women's wing chariman Shaful Alam Chowdhury said. "Among them one player and two officials were found positive on Wednesday (February 2). We are hoping to arrange another test for them after eight days and expectedly they would make their trip to World Cup on February 14 or 15."
Bangladesh women have qualified for their first ever ODI World Cup last November after the qualifier tournament in Zimbabwe was cancelled due to the Omnicron covid-19 variant. Following the cancellation, the ICC awarded qualification berths to West Indies, Pakistan and Bangladesh based on the latest team rankings.
