BBL 2024-25 winners Hobart Hurricanes sign Beau Webster for next three seasons

The all-rounder made his BBL debut playing for the Hurricanes in 2016 before moving to Melbourne Renegades and Melbourne Stars

Hobart Hurricanes, who won the 2024-25 Big Bash League (BBL) earlier this month, have signed Australia’s Test all-rounder Beau Webster for the next three editions. Webster made his BBL debut playing for the Hurricanes in 2016 before moving to Melbourne Renegades and Melbourne Stars.

Webster played seven games for the Stars last season, scoring 184 runs @ 30.66 and a strike rate of 128.67. The right-arm seamer also claimed four wickets at an average of 29. Overall, the 31-year-old has 1577 runs @ 28.67 and 19 wickets in the BBL. 17 of those wickets have come in the last three seasons.

"I am pumped to return to Hobart next summer for the BBL and get the opportunity to play in a packed Ninja Stadium in front of our fans, my friends and family," Webster said.

"Vaughany and Nelly (coach Jeff Vaughan and captain Nathan Ellis) have got the group playing a really good brand of cricket, and to see them win a championship makes me hungry to bring another one to 'Canes fans next season."

Meanwhile, Hurricanes High Performance General Manager Salliann Beams added: "We have seen over the past eighteen months just how special of a player Beau is, and to have him re-join the Hurricanes is something that will make all Tasmanians proud to hear.

"Beau's skill set in the short form of the game is up there with some of the best in the country, and he can take the game away from the opposition with the bat while also providing another wicket-taking option with the ball.

"His leadership will also be a vital aspect of his role at the Hurricanes, and he is great mates with the players we already have on our list which means he will fit into what we are trying to build seamlessly."

Iain Carlisle, Nikhil Chaudhary, Nathan Ellis, Caleb Jewell, Chris Jordan, Ben McDermott, Riley Meredith, Mitch Owen, Matthew Wade, and Mac Wright are the other players who have already signed with the Hurricanes.

Webster also made his Test debut for Australia during the 2024-25 Border Gavaskar Trophy, scoring 96 runs across two innings and also taking one wicket.
