BBL 24/25: CSK star suffers injury scare while trying to save boundary

The incident occurred in the 15th over of the clash between Hobart Hurricanes and Sydney Thunder

There was a very scary incident in the Big Bash League (BBL) clash between Sydney Thunder and Hobart Hurricanes on January 10 (Friday) as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star Nathan Ellis collided with the advertisement hoardings head-on while trying to save a boundary.

The incident occurred on the fifth ball of the 14th over of Sydney Thunder’s innings when Ellis went to retrieve an overthrow that was racing to the boundary.

Ellis chased after the ball and put a full-fledged dive in an attempt to stop the ball from going past the boundary rope. He didn’t succeed at stopping the ball from crossing the rope but that turned out to be the least of concerns for those at the Bellerive Oval.

The momentum of the dive meant that Ellis kept going and collided head-first with the advertisement hoardings.

The fast bowler immediately clutched his head after the impact and lay on the ground, outside the field of play. The physios rushed to Ellis and attended to him, and there was a lot of immediate concern as even several players came to the boundary to check on the fast bowler.

Thankfully, however, the impact was not severe, and after a few minutes of treatment, Ellis was back on his feet again.

In fact, he came back and bowled a couple of overs and finished his quota of four overs for the game.

At the IPL 2025 auction, Ellis was purchased for INR 2 crore by CSK. Ellis has played 16 IPL games in his career, all for Punjab Kings, and has taken 18 wickets at an economy of 8.60.
