The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is in turmoil once again as its chairperson, Faruque Ahmed, even after being directed by the country's interim sports ministry, has refused to resign.
The country’s sports adviser, Asif Mahmud, asked Ahmed to resign, but the incumbent made his intentions clear that he would not resign, creating a lot of tension between the government and the board.
"The [sports] adviser hasn't told me to resign, but said they don't want me to continue. But I will not resign since I am an elected board president,” ESPNcricinfo quoted the BCB chief as saying.
For his firebrand image, where he has been seen meddling with almost everything involving cricket, like the Dhaka Premier League, the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), seems to have irked the administration.
Aminul Islam, Bangladesh’s first Test centurion, who lives in Melbourne and does coaching for ICC development groups, is the first choice for the ministry to be interim chief of the board as elections are due in October.
