The BCCI on September 3 (Tuesday) appointed Ajay Ratra as the member of the Men's selection committee, which is headed by Ajit Agarkar. The former wicketkeeper replaces Salil Ankola in the committee.
Ratra played six Tests and 12 One-Day Internationals (ODI) for India, scoring a century in 18 innings. Overall, he played 99 first-class matches, 89 50-over contests, and 17 T20s, hitting over 5000 runs in competitive cricket and over 240 dismissals behind the wickets.
His role will be to work with the existing committee members and identify the next generation of Indian cricketers. Ratra has previously coached teams like Assam, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. He was also part of India's coaching staff during their tour of South Africa in 2023.
"His insights will be instrumental to the committee in ensuring that the best talent is identified, nurtured, and given the opportunity to excel at the highest level," the BCCI release further added.
India's next assignment is a two-match Test series against Bangladesh starting September 19, followed by three T20 Internationals (T20I).
