The Asia Cup 2025 drama continues as the BCCI is believed to have lodged an official complaint with the ICC against Pakistan players Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan over their on-field gestures during the Asia Cup Super Four clash in Dubai last Sunday. According to a PTI report, the complaint was sent via email on Wednesday and has been acknowledged by the ICC.
The incidents in question are believed to be Farhan’s ‘shooting’ celebration after reaching his half-century and Rauf’s ‘plane crashing’ gestures towards a section of spectators while fielding near the boundary. Both incidents have gone viral on social media, with Farhan and Rauf receiving serious heat online for their actions.
Should Rauf and Farhan deny the allegations in writing, the matter could go to a formal ICC hearing, where they may have to appear before match referee Richie Richardson. Andy Pycroft is the other match referee officiating in the tournament, and he’s already had his share of tussles with the Pakistan Cricket Team following the handshake gate.
Meanwhile, according to the same report, the PCB is believed to have filed its own complaint with the ICC against India captain Suryakumar Yadav. The complaint relates to Suryakumar dedicating India’s win over Pakistan in the opening round on September 14 to “the families of the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack” in April, which sparked cross-border tensions.
At the post-match presentation, Suryakumar had said, “We want to dedicate the win to all our armed forces who showed a lot of bravery. Hope they continue to inspire us all, and we give them more reasons on the ground whenever we get an opportunity to make them smile.”
The PCB is believed to have argued that the remarks were political in nature. The Asia Cup 2025 has been marred by controversy, and there’s been serious bad blood between India and Pakistan, both on and off the field.
Should Pakistan beat Bangladesh later today in Dubai, then India and Pakistan will clash for a third time in the tournament, in the final on September 28 (Sunday). India won each of the first two meetings comprehensively.
