BCCI Says ‘No Parade Planned Yet’ For World Champions India Women’s Team
Harmanpreet Kaur and Co. defeated South Africa by 52 runs in the final to lift their maiden ICC title
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary, Devajit Saikia, revealed that no decision has yet been made regarding a victory parade for the Indian Women’s team after their historic triumph in the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup. Harmanpreet Kaur and Co. defeated South Africa by 52 runs in the final on November 2 (Sunday) to lift their maiden ICC title.
“Nothing like a victory parade is planned as of now. I’m leaving for Dubai to attend the ICC meeting. Several officials are heading there as well, so once we return, we will plan accordingly,” Saikia was quoted as saying to IANS at the Mumbai airport.
India’s win comes weeks after another unresolved matter - the Asia Cup 2025 trophy - which the team has still not received despite winning the tournament in Dubai. India defeated Pakistan three times in that competition, including a dominant performance in the final, but were denied the trophy and medals after refusing to accept them from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
Naqvi, who also serves as Pakistan’s interior minister, took the trophy and medals back with him after India declined to engage with him during the post-match ceremony. The episode deepened the ongoing tensions between the BCCI and PCB, which have mirrored the deteriorating political relations between the two nations over the past several months.
Saikia confirmed that the matter will now be raised at the ICC meeting in Dubai. “We will take up the Asia Cup trophy matter with the ICC and hopefully get our trophy back with the respect and honour it deserves,” he said.
