The BCCI has informed players who are not part of the ongoing Test against Sri Lanka, to report to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for a 10-day fitness camp, according to a report by Cricbuzz.
Ahead of the Indian Premier League 2022, scheduled to begin at the end of the month, contracted and non-contracted players are set to be assessed by the staff at NCA. The players, who are part of the Ranji Trophy have been asked to join the camp after the completion of the three round matches of the league stage on Sunday. The rest were given a deadline of March 4.
"There are about 25 of them. The NCA will assess their fitness levels ahead of the IPL. The purpose is to have a camp before they disperse for their respective IPL duties," a BCCI official told Cricbuzz on Saturday.
The senior men's team has seen a number of regulars injured including Deepak Chahar, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Suryakumar Yadav and KL Rahul, who are undergoing rehabilitation at the NCA. The likes of
Shardul Thakur, Washington Sundar, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Venkatesh Iyer, Deepak Hooda, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravi Bishnoi and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who were part of the T20I series against Sri Lanka have been asked by the BCCI to report for the camp on the advise of the national selection committee.
Axar Patel nearing match fitness
The report also said that left-arm spinner Axar Patel, who has been sidelined since the second Test against New Zealand, is nearing full recovery and could be considered for the Day-Night Test in Bengaluru beginning on March 13.
