BCCI To Introduce Right To Match (RTM) Card In WPL Auction For First Time: Reports

Each franchise will be given a purse of INR 15 crore, but it will be trimmed down depending on how many players they retain ahead of the auction

A Right To Match (RTM) option will be included in a Women's Premier League (WPL) auction for the first time, according to a report on Sportstar. This means that a franchise can retain a player who played for them in WPL 2025 at the auction.

The franchises have already been told by the BCCI of such an option ahead of the mega auction, which is scheduled to be held during the last week of November.

According to the same report, a franchise can retain up to five players, with a maximum of three capped Indian players and an upper limit of two overseas players. If a franchise decides to use the option of retaining five players, at least one of them must be an Indian player.

In case the franchises do not use up all their five retention options, they can use the RTM method to fill in the slot at the auction. For instance, if four players are retained ahead of the auction, then the franchise can use RTM to fill that slot, and so on.

Each team will be given a purse of INR 15 crore. However, depending on how many players they retain, the purse will go down accordingly.

According to the communication received by Sportstar, “If a franchise opts to retain five players, Rs 9.25 crore would be deducted from its purse, while for four, the deduction would be INR 8.75 crore; for three, it would be INR 7.75 crore; for two, INR 6 crore; and for one, INR 3.5 crore."

The franchises have to submit their retention list by November 5, while November 18 is the deadline for player registration. The venue for the auction will be announced in due course.

The auction ahead of WPL 2025 was held in Bengaluru on December 15, 2024.
