BCCI to request extension for India’s CT 2025 squad announcement: Reports

The squad announcement will most likely be made around January 18-19, keeping in mind the ODI series against England

The senior selection committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which is tasked to announce the squad for the ICC Champions Trophy (CT) 2025, will most likely request an extension in the last date of squad submission from the International Cricket Council (ICC). The last date for submission of provisional squads, set by ICC for CT 2025, is January 12.

“The BCCI, citing recent commitments in Australia for the Test series, is expected to request for more time. It is likely that the provisional Champions Trophy squad, which will predominantly feature players from the three home ODIs against England, will be announced about a week later, around January 18-19,” Cricbuzz wrote in its report.

Usually, the ICC seeks provisional squads from the teams one month before the start of any tournament. However, this time around, it asked for them five weeks ahead of time. The CT 2025, hosted by Pakistan, will begin on February 19. However, India will play their matches at a neutral venue, Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

India will host England for a five-match T20I and three-match ODI series beginning January 22nd. The ODI leg of the tour will be played last, beginning with the first ODI on February 6.

BCCI is thus tempted to wait out the entire Vijay Hazare Trophy, 2024-25, whose final will be played on January 18th, to announce the ODI squad for the series, which will most likely also be India’s squad for Champions Trophy 2025.
