Beau Webster has gotten off to the perfect start in his Test career, having scored a fifty on debut against India at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). He got to the landmark off 92 deliveries on day two, thereby becoming the third oldest Australian this century to score a fifty on debut after Adam Voges and Aaron Finch.

He is also the first Australian debutant to score a fifty from No. 6 or below since Ashton Agar (98) did so in 2013, batting at 11 at Trent Bridge. The all-rounder earned his spot at the SCG ahead of Mitchell Marsh, who failed to make an impact with both bat and ball in the previous four Tests in the series.

Walking in at six following the dismissal of Travis Head, he put on 57 off 92 with Steven Smith for the fifth wicket before adding another 41 with Alex Carey.
The Tasmanian had a stellar Sheffield 2023-24 Shield season, where he became only the second player in the tournament's history after Garfield Sobers to score 900 runs and pick up 30 wickets in a season.
Webster's knock comes at a vital juncture for Australia, who are looking to take a lead after bowling India out for 185 on day one.
