Brother of Tom and Sam Curran, Ben Curran scores fifty on Test debut

Ben is the first Curran to play Test cricket for Zimbabwe. His father, the late Kevin Curran, played 11 ODIs for the country but never got capped in Tests

The Curran family continues to extend its legacy in international cricket as 28-year-old Ben Curran became the latest one to leave a mark.

On December 26 (Thursday) at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo, in the first ever Boxing Day Test hosted by Zimbabwe in 28 years, the left-hander became the 17th Zimbabwe batter to post a fifty-plus score on debut, compiling an aggressive 68, opening the batting.

Curran smashed 11 fours en-route a 74-ball 68, before getting castled by fellow debutant Allah Ghazanfar

Innocent Kaia was the last Zimbabwean to post a fifty-plus score on Test debut. Incidentally, his fifty also came at the very same venue, last year against the West Indies.

Curran, who represents the Mid West Rhinos in first-class cricket in Zimbabwe, made his international debut earlier this month in the ODI series against Afghanistan but had a torrid time, registering scores of 15, 0 & 2. But he showcased his talent on Test debut, playing many audacious strokes.
