Over the last 24 hours, Ben Duckett’s knock has garnered different kinds of reactions, with former South African opener Herschelle Gibbs being the latest to criticise him. Gibbs criticised the left-hander immensely, even going as far as alleging that England lost the clash only because of his slow-scoring 165 against Australia in Lahore.
Gibbs took to X (formerly Twitter) to post “2 examples in the space of a few weeks in odis, where batters facing 140 plus balls end up losing . Face that many balls you must have atleast 190-200.”
In response to that, a fan commented, “It's hard to say that England should've scored more runs after they scored 350. They should've won after scoring 350, needed to take their catches and I'm afraid their bowling was not that good and dew didn't help. Bowling too dependent on Adil Rashid.”
Gibbs replied to that, stating that “Duckett cost them the game .. scored to slow mate .. they should have got to atleast 380 .. same with breetske [Breetzke] the other day.”
The former South African batter also cited the example of Sachin Tendulkar, who had scored 200 off 147 balls against South Africa. Eventually, Australia went on to chase 352 in a canter as the duo of Josh Inglis (120*) and Alex Carey (69) helped them chase in 48 overs.
