After losing the second WODI against Team India, the Australian team, led by Alyssa Healy, batted with the aim of imposing dominance on the Indian bowling attack in the third WODI in Delhi and were quite successful in doing so, as they equalled their highest total in the format by scoring 412 in the first innings in Delhi.
Left-handed batter Beth Mooney was the destructor supreme for Australia, as she scored the joint second fastest WODI hundred for Australia, equalling Karen Rolton’s 57-ball hundred against South Africa back in the 2001/02 season.
However, the onslaught had begun even before she came out to bat as skipper Healy had already gotten out after a quick-fire 30 in 18 deliveries. Georgia Voll was also batting in a fashion that displayed the full might of Australia’s destructive batting by scoring 81 off 68 at the opening slot.
When Mooney came, the score was already 150/2 in just 21.1 overs, and she upped the ante even more from there. She used her feet to ground her stance and also to adjust her crease, manipulating the Indian bowlers’ line and length to consistently hit boundaries for herself. She scored as many as 23 fours in her innings of 138 runs in just 75 deliveries and made the erratic Indian bowling pay for their mistakes.
India’s fielding standard was under question as well, as multiple catches were dropped and ground fielding was lackadaisical to say the least. Eventually, Australia reached 412, which is the second time Australia have scored above 400 in the format. Now, the Indian team would hope that they manage to reach close to the target, if not chase it entirely.
