Bhanuka Rajapaksa submits letter of resignation to SLC

The 30-year-old has played five ODIs and 18 T20Is since making his debut in 2019

Sri Lanka batter Bhanuka Rajapaksa has handed over his letter of resignation to Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), which means that he will not be available to represent his country in international matches.

The Southpaw played five One-Day Internationals (ODI) and 18 T20 Internationals (T20I) for Sri Lanka since making his debut in 2019.

In his letter of resignation, Rajapaksa stated that he is stepping down due to certain family obligations. “I have very carefully considered my position as a player, husband and am taking this decision looking forward to fatherhood and associated familial obligations,” he said in his letter of resignation.

The 30-year-old most recently represented Sri Lanka in the T20 World Cup in the UAE, where he scored 155 runs at 38.75, to go with a strike-rate of 143.51.

Overall, the top-order batter has scored 320 runs at a strike-rate of 136.17 in T20Is and in the 50-over format, he slammed 89 runs which includes a highest score of 65 against India in Colombo earlier this year.
