Birmingham Police Orders Team India To Stay Indoors Ahead Of 2nd Test: Reports

The Indian team are currently in Birmingham to play the second Test against England

The Indian cricket team are currently in Birmingham to play the second Test against England. However, ahead of the game, they were asked to stay indoors by the Birmingham Police as a suspicious package was found near Centenary Square, where Team India are staying, a BCCI official confirmed to PTI.

Usually, the Indian cricketers roam in nearby areas and were seen visiting the busy Broad Street. As many as eight players, including Shubman Gill trained a day ahead of the match, while the rest of the players enjoyed the day off.

After the security alert, the team left the ground and headed back to their hotel.

"We've currently got a cordon in place around Centenary Square, Birmingham city centre, while we investigate a suspicious package," read a post from Birmingham City Centre Police on X.

"We were alerted just before 3 pm, and a number of buildings have been evacuated as a precaution while it's assessed. Please avoid the area," the statement further added.

The cordon was lifted an hour after that, after which the Indian contingent were allowed to venture out.

India will look to draw level, after losing the first Test at Headingley by five wickets. They are yet to win a Test at Edgbaston - the venue of the second Test.
