Pakistan Cricket Board has announced Bismah Maroof as the captain of the women's team for the 2022-23 season. Maroof, who took over the captaincy from Sana Mir since Pakistan league stage exits in the 2016 and 2017 World Cups, returned from maternity leave to lead them in the 2022 ODI World Cup in New Zealand this year.
Under Maroof, Pakistan snapped their 18-match losing streak in ODI World Cups with an eight-wicket win over West Indies. However, they were unable to reach the semifinals after losing their remaining six matches in the competition.
"It is truly an honour for any cricketer to captain their country and it is a great privilege for me to continue in this role. The 2022-23 cricket season is the busiest for Pakistan women's side and we are excited and geared up for the challenges it presents," Maroof said in a statement.
Pakistan have a busy schedule in build up to the T20 World Cup and T20 Asia Cup. They will host Sri Lanka for three T20Is and as many ODIs before travelling to Ireland for tri-series against the hosts and Australia in July.
It will be followed by the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham from July 25 to August 8.
