The India-Pakistan game at the Women’s ODI World Cup was supposed to be interrupted with rain after the match between Sri Lanka and Australia got rained out a day before at the R Premada Stadium in Colombo.
However, in what was a bizarre turn of events, the match had to be interrupted because of flying bugs that were disturbing the batter and the wicketkeeper a lot and were hovering in large quantities around the other side of the pitch as well.
They had started to irritate the batters as they flew into the helmet, which led to Harleen Deol and Harmanpreet Kaur calling in sprays from the dugout to just get rid of them. However, none of that worked.
Soon, the situation turned funny as the Pakistani side also called in for insect repellent spray, and Captain Fatima Sana took it upon herself to spray it in the air, which brought in a lot of laughs from the Pakistani players as it was clearly not helping.
However, the umpires decided to have proper fumigation done after the 34th over, and a worker came in with a proper gas mask and fumigated the areas surrounding the pitch. That interruption eventually led to a break in Jemimah Rodrigues’s rhythm, and she lost her wicket to a poorly executed sweep shot.
