Brendon McCullum and I are similar in the way we see the game: Jos Buttler

The England captain, who missed the T20Is against Australia, will also miss the ODI leg of the tour as he is yet to recover from his injury

England white-ball captain Jos Buttler has said that he is looking forward to working with Brendon McCullum, who recently took over as the head coach in all three formats. Buttler, who missed the T20 International (T20I) series and will now also miss the One-Day International (ODI) series against Australia, believes he and McCullum are quite similar in the way they see the game.

"I have a bit of a relationship with Baz [Brendon McCullum], but I'm looking forward to spending more time with him. I'm looking forward to digging into the cricket side of things. He will help me so much as a captain," Buttler told Sky Sports during England's third T20I vs Australia.

"We're similar in the way we see the game but just getting to spend time with him and opening my eyes to certain things or the other way around.

"For me, I want this to be the most enjoyable part of my career. I've played for a decent amount of time now so maybe a shift in the goalposts of what you really want to achieve and for me that's helping guys become what they can be and building towards two big events later on."

McCullum's tenure as the white-ball coach will begin from January 2025 and will go on till the end of the ODI World Cup in 2027. Until he takes charge, Marcus Trescothick will handle the head coach responsibilities.

The T20I series between England and Australia ended 1-1 after the third T20I at Old Trafford was washed out. The action will now shift to the ODIs, starting September 19 (Thursday) at Trent Bridge.
