Broad, Anderson dropped from England's squad for West Indies Tests

England named Saqib Mahmood and Matthew Fisher while Ben Foakes replaced Jos Buttler in the 16-player squad

Following a disastrous Ashes campaign in Australia which they lost by 4-0, England named a much-changed squad for their upcoming three-match Test series against West Indies next month.

It included axing the country's leading Test wicket-takers James Anderson and Stuart Broad alongside Jos Buttler, Dawid Malan, Dom Bess, Sam Billings, Rory Burns, Jos Buttler and Haseeb Hameed.

Lancashire's uncapped Saqib Mahmood and Matthew Parkinson are most likely to share the new-ball responsibilities in place of England's most successful fast-bowling duo.

Buttler, who suffered a fractured finger during the fourth Ashes Test, has been replaced by Ben Foakes while out of form openers Haseeb Hameed and Rory Burns have also been dropped. Durham's Alex Lee is likely to open alongside Zak Crawley.

Following Chris Silverwood's sacking as the national team head coach, Paul Collingwood will be in charge of the touring squad as the interim.

The selection panel consisting of interim managing director Andrew Strauss, Collingwood and head scout James Taylor dropped eight names from the squad that featured in the Ashes, Down Under.

"With the start of a new cycle, it has allowed the selection panel to refresh the Test squad with a particular focus on competing away from home. We felt that it was time to draw a line after the Ashes defeat, look forward and give some impetus with an influx of new players," Strauss said in an official release.

Strauss said that the future of Broad and Anderson will depend on permanent managing director and permanent head coach.

"In respect of James Anderson and Stuart Broad, I want to emphasise this does not mean the end for them as England players. We feel that it is important to look at some exciting new bowling potential and give some added responsibility to other players who have featured previously. No one doubts the quality and experience that James and Stuart bring to the England set-up. It will be up to the new managing director and permanent head coach to decide on whether they will be involved this summer and beyond," he added.

England will begin the series in the Caribbean with the first Test from March 8-12 at Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground, Antigua.

England Test squad: Joe Root (C), Jonathan Bairstow, Zak Crawley, Matthew Fisher, Ben Foakes, Dan Lawrence, Jack Leach, Alex Lees, Saqib Mahmood, Craig Overton, Matthew Parkinson, Ollie Pope, Ollie Robinson, Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood
