Broad questions WTC points allocation system

'I can't quite work out how a five-match Ashes series can be worth the same as India playing Bangladesh for two Tests,' the England fast bowler asked

England fast bowler Stuart Broad has questioned the World Test Championship (WTC) points allocation system and further asks how a five-match Ashes series can be allotted the same points as an India-Bangladesh two-Test series.

India and New Zealand will play the WTC final in Southampton from June 18. According to the rules laid down by the ICC, sam points will be available in all the series, regardless of its length. For Example, The Ashes comprising of five Tests is allotted 120 points, so is the two-match series between India and Bangladesh, which is something Broad feels should be looked at in the future.

"The World Test Championship is a really good concept, I just don't think it's quite right yet. It's a first-time effort. I can't quite work out how a five-match Ashes series can be worth the same as India playing Bangladesh for two Tests," Broad said while speaking to Press Association.

A veteran of 146 Tests, Broad reckons that it will be difficult for England to make it to the final under the current system.  "There's something in the idea and it has given great context to the game but there needs to be work done on how it all comes together, I think," the 34-year-old said.

England played the most Tests in the inaugural WTC cycle with 21 games, India played 17, while bottom-placed Bangladesh played just seven. "We had an opportunity, but the amount of cricket we play as an England side in the current system makes it very difficult to get into the final," Broad said.

India crushed England and Australia's chances of making it to the WTC final after they beat both the teams in back-to-back series. England finished fourth in the WTC table.
