Brooks, Mayers score tons as Windies sweep ODI series

West Indies beat Netherlands by 20 runs in the third and final ODI as they clinched the series 3-0 on Saturday

Kyle Mayers (120 off 106 balls) and Shamarh Brooks (101 not out off 115 balls) laid the foundation for West Indies big total while Shermon Lewis claimed 3-67 to set up their 20-run victory over Netherlands in the third and final ODI in Amstelveen on Saturday. The win also helped the Windies blank the hosts 3-0 in the series.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Mayers and Brooks put up a 184-run stand for the second wicket as West Indies posted 308/5 in 50 overs.

Mayers and opening partner Shai Hope added 58 in 11.2 overs before Bas De Leede dismissed the latter on 24 runs. Mayers played at a brisk pace as he smashed eight boundaries and seven sixes in his maiden ODI century.

Right-arm pacer Ryan Klein broke the partnership in the 41st over when he got Mayers brilliantly caught at deep midwicket by De Leede. Brooks, who played the second fiddle until then, was kept off the strike for considerable time as Nicholas Pooran (7), Brandon King (10) and Akeal Hosein (3) fell is quick succession.

The right hander finally got to his maiden ODI hundred with a couple of Vivian Kingma's final over.

Chasing a stiff target, Dutch openers Vikramjit Singh (54 off 55 balls) and Max O'Dowd (89 off 121 balls) added 98 before Mayers cleaned up Vikramjit in the 18th over. Musa Ahmed scored a run-a-ball 42 as he added 66 with O'Dowd who reached his fifth ODI fifty in 57 balls.

Hayden Walsh Jr brought the end to the partnership as he trapped Ahmed leg before in the 30th over. Bas de Leede (25 off 24 balls) frustrated West Indies further more before being dismissed by Akeal Hosein.

Hosein also denied O'Dowd his maiden ODI century as he castled the opener soon enough. Keeper-batter Scott Edwards (18), Logan van Beek (15) and captain Pieter Seelaar (16) added quick runs but fell quickly.

Defending 23 off the final over , Lewis cleaned up the final three wickets to finish the match off the penultimate ball.
