Buchi Babu Trophy: Ruturaj Gaikwad Smashes Ton Against Himachal Pradesh

Earlier, Gaikwad had posted scores of 1 & 11 against Chhattisgarh

In what comes as a relief more than anything, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ruturaj Gaikwad today brought up a much-needed century in the Buchi Babu Trophy against Himachal Pradesh to get some valuable runs under his belt ahead of the upcoming domestic season.

Gaikwad played Maharashtra’s first game of the competition against Chhattisgarh but endured a horror outing in that, registering scores of 1 & 11. After sitting out the second game, he roared back to form in the clash today against Himachal Pradesh, posting a quickfire ton batting at No.3.

The 28-year-old walked in to bat in the 15th over with the score reading 64/1, and then stitched a 220-run partnership with youngster Arshin Kulkarni, who also went on to post a ton. The partnership broke when Kulkarni departed for 146 off 190 deliveries, falling to Aman Jainwal. 

Gaikwad, at the time of writing this, is unbeaten on 104*, having smashed 10 fours in his innings. This clash is expected to be the CSK captain’s last game of this tournament, with him set to feature for the West Zone in the Duleep Trophy after this. 

Maharashtra are still looking for a win in the 2025 Buchi Babu Trophy. They lost to Chhattisgarh by 35 runs in their first game and then conceded a 156-run first innings lead to TNCA Presidents XI in their second game.
