Jasprit Bumrah has become the first-ever Indian bowler to pick a century of wickets or more across all formats of the game.
Bumrah’s 100th wicket came in the form of Dewald Brevis’s scalp on the second delivery of the 11th over against South Africa in Cuttack, as the young Proteas batter tried to slash hard at the ball, which was banged in short by Bumrah.
However, he mistimed the hoick towards the leg side and was caught at cover after slicing it. The umpires also checked for a no ball as it was a close call with Bumrah’s front foot just inside the crease.
With this scalp, Bumrah became only the second Indian after Arshdeep Singh to pick up 100 wickets or more in the format as he picked up Keshav Maharaj on the fifth delivery of the over as well.
India, meanwhile, were already ahead in the game by this stage as the South African batting order was already massively on the back foot at 68/6 in 10 overs chasing 176. In fact, they folded for 72 in the very next over after Bumrah’s double-wicket show in the 11th over.
At the end, India won the game by 101 runs, dominating the game entirely, especially with the ball.
