Sam Konstas’ name comes to the Indian cricket fans as someone who took their premium pacer Jasprit Bumrah by the horns and made him endure a tough time in the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground during India’s tour of Australia in late 2024 and early 2025.
However, the Bumrah tormentor further increased his chances of getting noticed by the Indian crowd as he smashed a century in his maiden outing in the country on September 16 (Tuesday).
Playing for Australia A in a four-day First-Class match against India A, Konstas delivered a great knock at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Australia A had a phenomenal start as the openers remained unbeaten and added 198 for the first wicket. It was during this partnership that the 19-year-old brought up his third First-Class hundred in only his 21st appearance in the format.
Konstas hit 109 off 144 balls, smashing 10 fours and three sixes before getting bowled by Harsh Dubey. After a splendid opening partnership though, India fought back through Dubey, who picked up two wickets and was helped by Harnoor Brar and Khaleel Ahmed. At the end of Day 1, Australia were 337/5.
