The 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) Final was originally scheduled to be held at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, but all reports suggest that it is inevitable that the grand finale will be instead moved to the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The BCCI are believed to be taking this decision keeping in mind the weather in Kolkata, with heavy rains expected over the next week or so. We’ve already had one game at the Eden Gardens abandoned due to rain in IPL 2025.
However, according to a Revsportz report, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) have submitted a Meteorological Department report to the BCCI, claiming that the final should not be moved away from Kolkata as it is ‘impossible’ to predict that it will rain on June 3rd.
“The Association approached the Regional Meteorological Centre in Kolkata asking for a report on the weather pattern expected in Kolkata on 3 June,” the Revsportz report read.
“The report from the Met office, which has been submitted to the BCCI, clearly states that it is too early to make such a prediction and it is only around the 25th of May that such a forecast can be made.”
The publication also quoted a CAB official as saying, “We remain confident that things will work out because we have done a very good job in organising everything. Also, you can’t predict weather patterns so early and we have submitted all official documents to this effect.”
The BCCI are yet to officially announce the venues for the playoffs, but, as it stands, it’s being speculated that Mumbai and Ahmedabad will host the four playoff games.
