Although there have been no official statements from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding the Indian team’s participation in the Asia Cup 2025, chances are that the team may pull out at the last minute as well.
The reason for the pull-out could be political as India are having one of the toughest phases of its relationship with neighbouring Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack.
The Emirates Cricket Board (ECB), who are hosting the Asia Cup 2025, are confident that both India and Pakistan will participate in the competition and play against each other as well. But the COO of the board, Subhan Ahmed, said that there is no formal guarantee of the game happening.
"While I cannot give a formal guarantee, there is no risk of Pakistan and India not playing. The Asia Cup cannot be compared to private tournaments like the World Championship of Legends, where India refused to play against Pakistan in both the league stage and the semi-final," Ahmed was quoted as saying by Times of India.
Both India and Pakistan have been drawn in the same group in the Asia Cup 2025 and can meet each other as many as three times. After the group stage meet, the two teams will likely face each other in the Super Fours and then, if they both finish in the top two in the Super Four, they can play the final as well.
