India’s ODI captain Rohit Sharma was seen at The Oval on Day 3 of the ongoing fifth and final Test between India and England. Dressed in casuals, the 38-year-old drew plenty of attention from fans, who were quick to click his pictures outside the stadium.
Rohit announced his retirement from red-ball cricket ahead of the Test series in England. Under his captaincy, India were whitewashed 3-0 at home by New Zealand and later lost a Test series in Australia for the first time in a decade.
His own form with the bat had also dipped. In his last eight Tests, Rohit scored just 164 runs at an average of 10.93, with only one 50-plus score in his final 15 innings.
Following his retirement, Shubman Gill was named India’s new Test captain. The young batter has been in terrific form this series and is leading from the front.
England currently lead the series 2-1, but India have a strong chance to win the final Test and level the series.
Rohit will return to action later this year in the three-match ODI series in Australia in October. He has confirmed that he plans to continue playing 50-over cricket until the 2027 ODI World Cup.
